Tbilisi Book Virtual Fair
TBILISI VIRTUAL BOOK FAIR
On May 30-31, the first ever Tbilisi Virtual Book Fair will be organized by Georgian Publishers and Booksellers Association. The global pandemic, which hit Georgia as well, caused the postponement of Tbilisi International Book Fair to the fall 2020. However, Georgian and foreign writers, publishers and readers will gather in the online space on the traditional dates of the fair.
It is noteworthy that Virtual Book Fair retains the content of traditional Book Fair and consists of two main parts: a literary-publishing program and an online book sale. A friend of Tbilisi Virtual Book Fair is TBC.
Like Tbilisi International Book Fair, the Virtual one will retain the traditional concept of a literary-publishing program, which includes several directions: Presentations of new books and live sessions with Georgian writers; Children's program; International program with Turkish and other foreign writers; International publishing-professional program; Project "Actors for Literature".
Tbilisi Virtual Book Fair will officially open on May 30, at 11:00. All online events within the program will be held on May 30 and 31 from 11 am to 8 pm on Facebook page of Tbilisi International Book Fair (https: // cutt.ly/yynpPSx) in a nonstop online mode.
Turkey is the focus country of 2020 Tbilisi International Book Fair and the Virtual Book Fair will also be focused on Turkish literature with the participation of Turkish publishers and writers.
On May 31, in partnership with British Council Georgia, an online session of International Publishing Fellowship with the participation of British, Georgian, Turkish and Ukrainian publishers will be held as a part of the International publishing-professional program of Tbilisi Virtual Book Fair. The aim of this project is to connect publishing professionals from the UK and their colleagues from countries with growing publishing sector.
Tbilisi Virtual Book Fair will also remain traditional project, called "Actors for Literature", where famous Georgian film and theater actors present books online.
About 30 publishing houses will take part in Tbilisi Virtual Book Fair. Each participant will offer a special festival discount to the readers. The online book sale will be held on the website of Georgian Publishers and Booksellers Association (www.gpba.ge) on the specially created Virtual Book Fair pavilion.
XXII Tbilisi International Book Fair will be held on September 24-27, 2020.
